[ Autographs ] GEORGE S. PATTON Superb content A.L.S. 1p. 4to., Paris France August 29, 1917 in which Patton prepares for the eventuality of his own death in combat, asking that his personal effects (which we stored with this letter) be sent to his father in San Gabriel. It reads in full: "To who opens this box: In case of my death the inclosed Dress and Full Dress uniforms boots etc. contained here in are to be sent by Express Collect to my father George S. Patton San Gabriel California. He will pay all charges and send sender E100.00 for his trouble. George S. Patton Jr. Capt. of Cavalry Staff of Gen. Pershing".. Patton had arrived in France only three months earlier andwas indeed wounded in combat while leading the 1st Tank Brigade at Saint-Mihiel. A few tiny chips at lower-right margin, well away from text, folds, otherwise near fine.
