[ Autographs ] George P. Buell 1833-1883 Union brevet brigadier general, an engineer and cousin of Don Carlos Buell. Fine content war date A.L.S. 4pp. 4to., [Lookout Mountain], Oct. 27, 1863 During the battle of Lookout Mountain, while the Army of the Cumberland was cut-off from all food supplies, the beleaguered general writes his sister Buell complains of the treatment he is receiving from his superiors,and tells of his present circumstance, in part: "...Genl [George H.] Thomas will not spare me. I think I shall get justice from him ...I am now on the front in command of eight rests. Gen I Thomas sent for me yesterday to know if I could take charge of building a road for transportation over the mountain... Unless we do something soon our Army is going to suffer for food Several have been tried and failed.. if I am put on this work you shall not hear from me for some time..."Moderate toning from damping and soiling, not affecting legibility of this fine letter.
