[ Autographs ] Francis Vigo 1747-1835 Spanish fur trader and Continental Army spy who outfitted George Rogers Clark and his raggedarmy, then sent by Clark to examine the defenses of Fort Sackville where he was arrested as a spy. Released as a Spanish citizen he rejoined Clark to capture the fort. Very rare manuscript D.S. "Vigo",2pp. 4to., Knox Co., Indiana Territory, May 10, 1808, an indenture concerning a land transaction in which Vigo agrees to pay E75 for a parcel of land in the territory, boldly signed at conclusion. Two careful archival tape repairs to recto, otherwise only lightly toned and very good.
