[ Autographs ] FRANCIS C. BARLOW (1834 - 1896) Union brigadier general severely wounded at Antietam and again at Gettysburg, where his life was saved by Confederate General John B. Gordon. A.L.S. 4pp. 4to., New York, July 9, 1889, in which Barlow writes General Henry M. Cist, on an account of the battle of Chicamauga. In part: "...I have rarely, if ever, read a more able account of a campaign...I was greatly impressed with the skill of General Rosecrans in the campaign,and of the splendid fighting of your army...I have read nothing so good...since I read Napier's `Peninsular War'...". Very good to fine condition.
