[ Autographs ] EMMA GOLDMAN (1869 - 1940) Lithuanian born anarchist who led anti-war protests during the First World War. Arrested and deported under the Sedition Act for her anti-war activities. Good content T.L.S. "Emma" with several autograph corrections in text, 1p. 4to., St. Tropez, Sept. 11, 1933 to Ella Pomilia, with whom she becameacquainted while serving one of her numerous prison terms for her activities in the United States. Goldman reflects on the state of affairs for various anarchist comrades: "...The summer had been so uninteresting except for the visit of our gracious comrades Milly and Rudolf Rocker...their stay was fraught with misery because they are among the victims of the Nazi[s] who had lost everything including a magnificent library of 5000 volumes. Yet their personal loss was nothing compared with their tragic loss of all that our brilliant comrade had built up in the way of an Anarchist movement....Our own affairs have also been desperate. No work of any sort, no way of earning a sou. I ventured into a camp. Pitched up some tents hoping I might rent them out and earn a little in this way...Life is so uncertain my dear. One can't make plans. One just drifts...The human breed seems to remain everywhere the same whether German or Italian orany other. Fancy rejoicing over the flight of that butcher Balbo, the miserable satrap of Mussolini who had carried out his bidding to dispose of his opponents. It is like rejoicing over Hitler's triumph. The mass is hopeless...I too wish I could see you my dear and talk with you. but that will never be unless you come to me. For I will certainly never get to you..." Usual folds, otherwise very good condition.E600-800
