[ Autographs ] EDWARD RUTLEDGE (1749 - 1800) Signer of the Declaration of Independence, member of the Continental Congress, and a Governor of South Carolina. Partly-printed D.S. signed twice and filled out in his hand, 1p. oblong folio, Charleston, S.C., Sept. 21, 1773, a summons ordering Sarah Niley to appear in court to answer a suit brought by Thomas Dyall for 500 pounds. Also signed by Chief Justice THOMAS KNOX GORDON. Tipped in to a larger sheet, light soiling otherwise very good.
