[ Autographs ] (DESTITUTE VETERAN OF SARATOGA) D.S. 1p. 4to., "Pay Table Office", [Conn.], Nov 13, 1783, a voucher for one Benjamin Denslow: "To an allowance for disability occasioned by a wound recd inthe Year 1777 in Colo's Cooke's Regt. at Stillwater [Saratoga]...". His doctor Amos Granger also certifies that Denslow "...is unable to Support himself by reason of a wound he received at Stillwater...". Denslow was awarded nine pounds for the year between February 1782- 1783. Very good. E75-100571. ROBERT E. LEE (1807 - 1870) Confederate general and commander of the Army of Northern Virginia, arguably the most brilliant commander of field armies in American history. Scarce war-date A.E.S. cut from a document with Confederate States of Americaletterhead, about 2.5in x 2in, in full: "Assigned to duty in the Dis: of Georgia. R. E. Lee" Slight blur to a portion of one letter in signature, a tiny tear at top, overall very good. Matted with an oval portrait of Lee, approx. 5in x 6in sepia showing Lee full-length in uniform, said to be (but not warranted as such) a contemporary copy ofa war-date image. All matted and ready to frame.
