Samuel Dunlap writes his parents: "...two from our company and they both have their legs off... one company in this regiment that had five men with their legs off... it is too hard when we get only E11 amonth... we have another brigadier general and his name is Walker. hewas Col of the 13th Va. & he was in command ofearly's old brigade at the time of the Ist Fredericksburg tight and the same man that caughtMontgomery... General Edward Johnston is our Major General now, the man that whipped the Yankees at Alleghany Mountain...' With transmittal envelope canceled in Richmond. Very good.
