[ Autographs ] COLORED CAVALRY BATTLE MAP A fine probable war-date battle map 8 3/4" x 11" drawn and signed by Lt. Col. Louis Henry Carpenter of the 5th U.S. Colored Cavalry, a Medal of Honor winner forhis service as an Indian fighter, and breveted for his gallant serviceat Gettysburg and at Winchester. Our well-drawn ink map shows the region between Lexington and Carrollton, Kentucky, and from Port Royalto Knoxville, indicating all towns, rivers, larger creeks, railroads, and so on, and signed at the bottom: "L. Henry Carpenter Lt. Col. 5th U.S. Cav.", dating the piece to late 1864. The map bears mail folds and is addressed on the verso to Col. James F. Wade who was at the time likely commanding the 6th Colored Cavalry. A fine, well-executed map in very good condition, particularly rare as it concerns colored cavalry.
