[ Autographs ] CHARLES G. HARKER (1837 - 1864) Union brigadier general killed in action while leading a charge at Kennesaw Mountain.Rare war-dated A.L.S. "C. G. Harker" 8pp. 8vo., Nashville, Dec. 16, 1862, in which Harker writes a political supporter. In part: "...You were very kind...to use your efforts to obtain a New Jersey Regt. for me...I am now...in command of a brigade consisting of six Regts. of Infantry and a battery of artillery. Four of these Regts. are old troops...We are expecting active operations in this dept. soon...It has been intimated to me that I shall be recommended for the position of Brig. Genl....I should have received promotion before this, but politics I am sorry to say, is too much mixed up with the Army...My troops were raised and therefore have no political friends...I...hear your son James has been promoted. If I get apromotion...I can give him a position on my staff...". Very good.
