[ Autographs ] (CAPTURED HESSIAN MUSTER ROLL) A fine and rare manuscript D.S. signed "W. de Gall Brigadier General" 1p. oblong 4to. Winterhill, [Mass.], July 31, 1778, a "Return of Provisions drawn Monthly by the Hesse Hannau Regiment of Infantry..." while being held captive as part of Burgoyne's convention army taken at Saratoga. The infantry regiment lists a total of 444 effective including eleven women and sixteen servants drawing over 26,000 rations in two months. De Gall's signature is quite rare as are documents relating to German mercenaries in America. Signature close to margin, otherwise very goodto fine condition.
