In part: "...I have no particular news to inform you unless it is such to tell you that Co. Ogden and Captn. Dayton of the L. Infantry were taken at Elizabeth-Town the night before last, and carried to N. York -- In regard to the new arrangement, Captn. Frothingham & Captn-Lieut. Jonathan Dayton was captured with Col. Matthias Ogden at Elizabethtown. Heitman lists the date as October 5, 1780 but other sources, including this letter, point to a date in early November, 1780. Within a month Moore would be quartered at Jockey Hollow, three miles south of Morristown, where the Continental Army would endure the coldest winter of the eighteenth century. Tape remnants about margins, otherwise very good condition.
