[ Autographs ] BRIGHAM YOUNG (1801 - 1877) Leader of the Mormon church woo succeeded Joseph Smith as head of the church and led the mass migration to Salt Lake Valley. Young was also the first governor of Utah Territory. Partly-printed D.S. "B. Young", 1p. 36mo., "G[reat]S[alt] L[ake] City", Jan. 20, 1849, a hastily-printed three dollar bank note issued to "N. K. Whitney" by the state government in its first year, and co-signed by church elders H. C. KIMBALL and THOMAS BULLOCK with blind-embossed seal. The note, in very fine condition, issaid to be the first printing in Utah and undertaken in a covered wagon with calling-card type.
