[ Autographs ] BLANCHE K. BRUCE (1841 - 1898) American politician. Born a slave, Bruce became a planter and politician in Mississippi and later became the first black to serve a full term in the Senate. A.L.S. "B. K. Bruce" as Senator, 1p. 8vo., Washington, June 4, 1879, to David Creamer, responding to a request for an autograph. Minor browning to edges, otherwise fine. Bruce is uncommon in this format.
