[ Autographs ] BERNARD LAW MONTGOMERY (1887 - 1976) British Field Marshall who commenced the drive at El Alamein that ultimately drove Rommel from North Africa, also involved in the invasions of Sicily and France. Fine group of three A.L.S.'s , "Montgomery of Alemein" to "Alan", Hampshire, England, between April of 1965 and April of 1966, regarding Montgomery's book whose publication Alan apparently was assisting. In part: "...Ap. 17, 1965...I suggest you destroy the previous drafts. I am now working on the eleven great captains ( chapter 26)...June 23, 1965...here is the last of the chapters... Please telephone me on Saturday...If you are hard up, reverse the charge!!...April 30, 1966...will you please...bring chapter 10 `The Ottoman Turks' when you come here on Tuesday evening next...I have some comments from Brett James and from Hadfield which we must discuss and decide...".
