[ Autographs ] ANNE OF AUSTRIA (1601 - 1666) Queen Consort of France,wife of Louis XIII, conspired against her husband on behalf of her brother, Philip IV, appointed Mazzarin and maintained the power of the throne against the nobles. Fine content L.S., "Anne" 1/2p. 8vo., Fontainebleu, Nov. 1661, in French to James Stuart, future King of England and Duke of York. Anne announces the birth of her grandson Louis [the Dauphin, 1661-1711], in part: "....the advantages that France receives by the birth of my grandson, the Dauphin, are so significant and my satisfaction so extraordinary that there can be no doubt that a person such as you and so devoted to me...which you show in your letter...assures me of the continuation of my friendship...". Anne's grandson was to be the future King of France, but he died before Louis XIV, as did his own son. Light age toning and folds, otherwise boldly signed and fine.
