[ Autographs ] (Ambrose P. Hill) A.L.S. 1p. 4to., Culpepper, Va., Jul 20, 1850 Thomas Hill writes to the Adjutant General requesting a furlough for his brother, future Confederate General A.P. Hill. Hill points out that his brother was ordered to Mexico City immediately after leaving West Point, had contracted yellow fever, and now, still suffering from its effects, is serving in Florida where the severe summer climate has further affected his health. Upon closing, Thomas adds: "Ps. This is without the authority or consent of the Lieut. [A.P Hill]" 'Docketing on verso of the letter shows that the request was answered, but it is unknown if young Lieut. Hill got his furlough. Very good.
