Pinkerton also was charged with protecting Lincoln while traveling to his inauguration, and provided estimates of Confederate troop strength to Gen. George McClellan. Superb and very rare oversize S.P., 9.5in x 12.5in, a mounted albumen chest, up portrait of Pinkerton wearing a suit, boldly signed by him at bottom right: "yours truly, Allan Pinkerton 1866' Pinkerton is rare in any form, a signed photograph of this sizeespecially so. Corners have been rounded, with a .5in tear at upper margin, all of which would easily mat out.
