[ Autographs ] Allan Pinkerton 1819-1884 American detective and founder of the agency that yet bears his name, he gained national fame in solving the Adams Express robberies. Pinkerton also was charged with protecting Lincoln while traveling to his inauguration, and provided estimates of Confederate troop strength to Gen. George McClellan. Superb and very rare oversize S.P., 9.5in x 12.5in, a mounted albumen chest, up portrait of Pinkerton wearing a suit, boldly signed by him at bottom right: "yours truly, Allan Pinkerton 1866' Pinkerton is rare in any form, a signed photograph of this sizeespecially so. Corners have been rounded, with a .5in tear at upper margin, all of which would easily mat out.
