[ Autographs ] ALFRED R. WALLACE (1823 - 1913) English naturalist whoindependently originated the theory of natural selection (1858) an account of which he forwarded to Charles Darwin. A.L.S. "Alfred R. Wallace" 3pp. 8vo., Godahunig, Jan. 26, 1883, to Miss Reumann. In part "...I have much pleasure in sending you one of Darwin's letters to add to your collection...He generally wrote omitting the year, but I think it is 1871. I do not know if you are interested in botany or gardening, or have any friends who are so. My garden is my chief occupation and amusement, and I take every opportunity to buy seeds orbulbs from my correspondents abroad. If there is any woodland near your city there must be a number of beautiful wild flowers a few seedsany of which sent in a letter would be very acceptable...". Boldly written and signed mounted to a larger sheet, overall very good.
