[ Autographs ] Alfred E. Jackson (d. 1889 Confederate brigadier general who commanded a brigade against Federal raiders and fought at Greenville, Tn. Later, Jackson served as a staff member of John C. Breckinridge. D.S. 2pp. folio, Holyoke Co., Tn., "July Sessions, 1860'' As a Commissioner, Jackson witnesses a document in which ten slaves are appraised for estate purposes. In part: "...Frank, a yellow[mulatto] man... we value him at fifty dollars.. -41y, a black girl aged about 22 years, valued at eight hundred dollars... Frances, a dark copper colored girl aged about 14 years valued at seven hundred seventy live dollars...' The slaves are again listed on the last page with the value of each enumerated. some browned spots in text not affecting legibility and a few slight fold splits, otherwise very good.
