[ Autograph ] Winston S. Churchill Fine content T.Ms. 4pp. 4to., 1946 A military officer and acquaintance of Churchill, Fred L. Anderson, sends the text of a letter he sent to a friend in 1943 describing an awards ceremony and speech by Churchill during the war.The narrative relates how one speech described the effort of a mortally-wounded B-17 bombardier to reach his bombsight in time to drop, with Churchill's reaction and other events of the evening, In part: "'..Tears were running down his cheeks. he was staring over theheads of the seated guests. You could see that he was deeply touched.. he was speaking with tears in his eyes for these boys ... spoke of the relations between the United States and Great Britain - how, after the last war, we drifted apart and permitted this war to be... we've got to stop any recurrence of the hell, the hatred, tears, death and the blood... he spoke with intense hatred of the German 'Weare ripping out his guts and digging into his gizzard and we are going to dig into his gizzard deeper'...he detests incompetence and doesn't some very much for people like Mr. [Wendell] Willkie. That was quite evident... Mr. Churchill was dressed in an RAF uniform...' More fine content.
