The certificate was used in a stock sale scam of the late 1920s in which the con-man seller made it appear that this was a certificate for stock in the Wrigley chewing gum company. Indeed, the stock certificate bears an image of a tube of toothpaste at top, and as a matter of fact this stock was sold with two tubes of toothpaste as anincentive'
