Description:

[ Autograph ] Theodore Roosevelt Good content T.L.S. "Theodore Roosevelt" as Governor of New York, lp. 4to., Albany, Mar. 23, 1899 to Mrs. W. H. Llewellyn in Las Cruces. In part: '...I am extremely sorry to hear the news of your husband's sickness, but am delighted to learn he has recovered. After thinking that I had escaped absolutely, I have recently been having slight recurrent attacks of malarial fever myself.." Only six months earlier, Roosevelt had returned from his service in Cuba leading the Rough Riders, where no doubt he first contracted malaria. Llewellyn was most likely one of Roosevelt's fellow cavalrymen. A few marginal tears, with one 2in tear at bottom, far from text, otherwise very good.
