[ Autograph ] Pearl 8 Buck Original typed manuscript of her article "Aid to democracy in China", 4pp. 4to., ca. 1940 There are dozens of corrections and deletions in Buck's hand, in all over a hundred changes. A most interesting article in which the author heartily defends the Red Army's military struggle against Chiang Kai Shek and the Japanese, predicts a revolution once World War II ends, and mentions Mao and Chou En Lai by name. She concludes: 'They [peasants]will find they have that most precious possession of our modern age, guns. And they will use them as aids to democracy'. Light toning, otherwise very good.
