[ Autograph ] Martin Van Buren A.L.S. 3pp. 4to., Lindenwald, July 22, 1850 to the wife of his former Attorney General, Mrs. Benjamin F. Butler. Van Buren has a few requests which need Mrs. Butler's attentions he is in dire need of a laundress, and lays out elaborate travel plans to have her reach his home, and asks that his chairs and table be re-covered in new fabric, "...the work done here & the price reasonable how inconsistent it is with your notions to get things cheap...' and advises her to: '...avoid the big bugs in high places " So worried is Van Buren of the cost and workmanship, that he reminds the lady a final time in his postscript to spend carefully. A good woman is hard to find! Fine condition.
