[ Autograph ] Joseph Stalin 1879-1953 Soviet Premier and dictator whoreorganized the government and army through bloody purges of his political enemies, allied with the Nazis who then turned on him and invaded the Soviet Union, costing 20 million lives. An original oil painting of Stalin, ca. 1935, about 34in x 24in on canvas showing himfrom the chest, up in Red Army uniform. Very likely this piece once graced an official's office or military post to remind all that "Uncle Joe" was watching. Creasing at top with a repaired tear on Stalin's left shoulder and a tear at top margin, yet very dramatic and a welcome addition to any family room. Sold with a second item, ahand-painted propaganda poster of similar dimensions on red cotton. Itbears a Russian legend and flowered border, with "May 1in written in capitals at center. Worn with paint faded a bit. Two pieces.
