[ Autograph ] James A. Garfield Extremely rare S.P., a carte-de- visite image of Garfield shown half-length in his uniform as a Union brigadier general. On the lower white mount he has signed: "J. A. Garfield Brig. Gen. Ohio'. As Garfield resigned his commission in 1862 to enter Congress, this photograph would have to date from 1861 or early 1862, and as such is very rare. Very light soiling, no backstamp, otherwise very good condition.
