[ Autograph ] (Insane Asylum Murder) Fascinating A.L.S. 2pp. 4to. on Florida Asylum for the Insane letterhead, Chattahootchie, Florida, Jan. 14, 1890, an asylum warden writes a letter of explanation to the governor for the death of several inmates. In part: "...my painful duty to report to your excellency the occurrence of one of the most unfortunate incidents as having transpired in an institution of this kind between the hours of ten thirty PM. of yesterday and six A.M. a patient broke into the two rooms adjoining his, one on each side, andkilled their respective occupants In both instances the doors were forced and I think that no one could have provided against the happening of so deplorable an accident. I have notified the nearest Justice of the Peace, by statute Ex 0fficio Coroner, and am expectingthe verdict to be rendered sometime during the day...' Very good.
