[ Autograph ] Hyman G. Rickover 1900-1986 American admiral responsible for the construction of the "Nuclear Navy", starting with the submarine Nautilus. Good content T.L.S. 3pp. 4to., aboard the U.SS. Truxtun, "At sea, North Pacific', July 14, 1975 to Congressman John E. Moss. Better than usual content in which Rickover gives the history of vessels of the same name, describes this new vessel, a guided-missile cruiser, and makes an impassioned plea for his nuclearNavy. In part: "...the U.S. has only nuclear surface ships in operation and six more under construction. This is a slow rate of transition to nuclear power of the greatest maritime power in the world - an island nation dependent on the Navy for its security. The continuing decline in the number of overseas bases... and the increasing uncertainty in our ability to provide propulsion fuel whenand where needed under wartime conditions, further emphasizes the importance of building nuclear powered warships...' Fine.
