[ Autograph ] George Bernard Shaw (1856 1950 British playwright and critic with classic ascerbic wit. his works include Pygmalion, The Devil's Disciple, and much criticism of the arts. A.N.S. with initials on the verso of a pre-printed correspondence card, London, May 30, 1946 to Symon Gould of the American Library service. The printed portion gives Shaw's reason for declining to write a preface: "'.A request for a preface by him is therefore a request for a gift of some months of hard professional work... it is not possible for Mr Shaw to oblige...' at bottom, he dates the note, adding: "This card has been sent to W Reinheimer also. G.B.S. " Tiny stain in left margin, otherwise very good.
