Bliss led the team of surgeons who somed for Garfield after his wounding by Charles Guiteau. A good content letter to the editor of the Washington Post, in part: '..I send the enclosed statement as it answers some [?] articles which appeared in the public press of the country during the ordeal of the late President Garfield which I could not answer at the time...'
