Description:

[ Autograph ] Franklin D. Roosevelt Fine literary content T.L.S. as President on White House letterhead, lp. 8vo., Washington, [n.d.] to Richard Gimbel, President of the Edgar Allen Poe Club. Roosevelt relates that he has learned of the opening of the Edgar Allen Poe Shrine in Philadelphia and adds his comments. In part: "...I feel that the concern in perpetuating the memory of one of America's greatest literary geniuses shown by the erection of the Shrine is of hopeful augury for the well-rounded development of the people of our country who are too often alleged to be unduly preoccupied with material conditions of our life. I am happy to add my tribute to one who has given to American letters the distinction of an originality which is universally recognized... " Small paperclip stain at top, otherwise very good condition. With transmittal envelope.
