[ Autograph ] Eli Whitney 1765-1825 American inventor whose invention for removing seeds from cotton, the cotton gin, revolutionized the trade and led to an enormous increase in cotton production. Whitney later became and arms manufacturer and pioneered the use of interchangeable parts. Rare A.D.S. signed twice, 1p. oblong 8vo., Hamden, Ct., June 30, 1806, likely from his gun factory in Hamden, Whitney pens a receipt for one pick ax and six starting picks received from Micajah Talmadge, signing in full once in text attop and again at conclusion. One fold archivally reinforced on verso,otherwise boldly written and in very good condition.
