Description:

[ Autograph ] Dewey Defeats Truman! The exceedingly rare issue of the Chicago Daily Tribune with a huge headline reading Dewey Defeats Truman. Beneath the banner are other headlines reading "G.O.P Sweep Indicated in State Puts G.O.P Back In The White House..." and the copy reads in part: "Dewey and Warren won a sweeping victory in the Presidential election yesterday Dewey won the Presidency by an overwhelming majority of electoral votes New Deal repudiated [that] left the nation a 250 billion dollar debt... "There is further embarrassment on the editorial page, where a political cartoon shows a Republican elephant triumphant in a boxing match with a mangled Democrat donkey. The paper was printed very early on November 3, 1948and has since become the classic example of a "bad call". Of course, one the most famous of all presidential photos shows Truman beaming while holding this newspaper over his head. The complete three-part edition is present, and apart from some very light soiling along halfof the horizontal fold, is in very good condition. One of the rarest and most desirable newspapers!
