[ Autograph ] Daniel Webster 1782-1852 American lawyer and statesmanwho verbally jousted with Calhoun in the Senate and later supported Clay's compromise measures on slavery. A.L.S. 3pp. 4to., Mansfield, July 21, 1845 to R. Smith. Webster asks for a delay in what appears to be the settlement of real estate matters not favorable to Webster. he implores his correspondent: '...I see fully the necessity of bringing my matter to a close... I am willing to make any sacrifice, in reason, to bring this unpleasant matter to a close ...I will make good any inconvenience he may suffer, from delay till October...' Very good.
