[ Autograph ] Clementine S. Churchill Wife of Winston Churchill 18741965, British Prime Minister, Fine content A.L.S. 4pp. 8vo., London, Sep. 3, 1947 to Col. Frank Clarke. In part: "...Winston has been at Chartwell all this glorious, hot summer... he is getting on with his book which engrosses his mind & prevents him from grieving too much over the calamitous condition into which our dear Country is driftingand sinking... it is difficult to see even a glimmer of light... The rest of his time Winston spends fanning! In our old age we have suddenly bought 500 acres & a herd of 30 cows & it's great fun... Winston is spending packets on it. But he says it's better to do that than invest in stocks & shares...' One small paperclip ter to do that than invest in stocks & shares...' One small paperclip stain, otherwise very good.
