Description:

[ Autograph ] Charles Dickens (1812 -1870 English novelist and the author of such classics as Oliver Twist, A Tale of Two Cities, and David Copperfield. Good content A.L.S. 1p. 8vo., London, Feb. 23, 1850 to Percival Leigh. Dickens solicits contributions to his weekly "Household "Words", in part: '...I do not send you the enclosed because I have the least thought ...of interfering with any of your subsisting engagements in the slightest degree. It is merely to give me the opportunity of saying that if ever you should ave inclination and leisure to write anything in these pages, I should be sincerely pleased to number you among the contributors...' Leigh had published "Tale of the Good Old Time" which expressed the same beliefs Dickens held on social progress. Indeed, Leigh became a contributor to Harper's Weekly, at Dickens invitation, most likely by way of this letter. Very good.
