Description:

[ Autograph ] (A Lock Of Lincoln's Hair) An actual lock of Abraham Lincoln's hair, taken from his head after his assassination, with provenance by his son, Robert Todd Lincoln! The hair was originally contained in an envelope upon which Robert Lincoln wrote: 'This envelope contains a lock of President Lincoln k hair obtained at Springfield, Illinois on May 6, 1865" The envelope also contained a card signed with sentiment by the younger Lincoln. No doubt Robert had the lock removed from his father's head shortly before interment and either kept the relic or sent it to an admirer. This lock, about 5-6 strands, came from the above-mentioned envelope which was originally sold by Riba Auction in 1994 The lock is sold with a colorphotograph of Robert Lincoln's note, a notarized statement from the owner concerning the break-up of the lock, and a copy of the originalcatalog listing by Riba. An extremely rare and most desirable relic of our greatest president!
