Auguste Chouteau 1786-1838 French fur trader and explorer in the Midwest, obtained a monopoly on fur trade in the Missouri valley, son of the founder of the first white settlement in Oklahoma. D. S., a ten dollar Bank of Missouri bank note, St. Louis, Sep. 18, 1818, signed by Chouteau as President. Moderate wear and staining, closely cut at bottom but Chouteau's signature is bold and distinct.
