Description:

ARTILLERY GENERAL OFFICER'S TROPICAL M40 FIELD CAP
A very rare Heer tropical M40 field cap, constructed of olive-brown cotton drill with seam running from the rear edge, over the crown and down the front, terminating at the back of the bill, and with two integral flaps sewn to each side. The crown and front of the flaps are trimmed with yellow woven celluloid piping, indicating general officer's rank. A machine-embroidered national eagle patch in blue-gray thread on a yellow ground is sewn at the peak, while the front of the flaps bears a tri-color cockade of thread and gold and silver bullion, beneath a red soutache indicating artillery service, applied through a small puncture in the fabric at each end and machine-stitched. Two brown-finished steel vent grommets are fitted on each side of the crown. The interior is lined with red cotton, with the center seam reinforced, the interior of the crown size-stamped ‘58' over a stamp bearing the maker's name, place and date: ‘Robert Lubstein Berlin No. 5 1941 II.' The brown leather sweatband is faintly stamped with a numeral, possibly ‘09', on the inside at front. Shows slight soiling overall, with minor deformation to the cardboard within the bill, otherwise in very good to fine condition overall.
