ARMY-NAVY "EXCELLENCE" AWARD ITEMS
Good lot of three items, all related to the Army-Navy "E" Award, presented to companies who achieved "Excellence in Production" of military goods during World War II. Includes: two-piece swallowtail pennant, approx. 17 1/2" x 8 1/2", of red and blue felt, emblazoned with a white "E" within a gold wreath, and with "Army" and "Navy" on either side. Companies who won the award would receive a larger, double-sided version of this pennant from the War Department. Shows some surface wear, else very good. WITH: cast copper finish medal, 3" dia., double sided, issued to employees of the Curtiss-Wright Corporation''s Airplane Division, Plants One and Two in Buffalo New York. The obverse depicts two Curtiss products, a P-40 fighter and a C-46 transport, flanking an Army-Navy "E" pennant as described above. The reverse bears the inscription: "Presented in appreciation of your participation in the earning of this production award", above the Curtiss-Wright logo. The medal is housed in a padded box, also containing a small note explaining that the medal was produced with scrap metal deemed valueless to the war effort. Shows a ding or casting flaw to the rim, with the seams of the box lid split, else very good. WITH: cast metal letter opener, 5" blade, 8 1/2" overall, in the form of a sword with a large medallion at the crossguard, depicting an Army-Navy "E" pennant with the inscription "For Outstanding Achievement 1942-1944" on the obverse, and with the logo of the Doehler Die-Casting Co. of Toledo on the reverse. Shows some oxidation overall, else very good. Three pieces.

Shipments are sent via USPS Priority, USPS International Priority, DHL (for most overseas shipments) or FedEx Ground at the auctioneer's option, signature is always required, unless other arrangements are made. Handling and shipping charges will be added to the invoice in one entry. Buyers should be aware that large, framed, fragile or odd shaped items can incur substantial shipping and packing charges. International shipments are invoiced by DIMENSIONAL weight, not the item weight. Please contact us for an estimate before bidding NOTE: Large, heavy or bulky items may not be shipped by the auctioneer - arrangements for shipping of these items via a third-party shipper may be arranged through the auction house. Customers who supply their own courier account number will still be charged a handling fee. Please allow 2-3 weeks for shipments after receipt of payment due to the high volume of packages being shipped.
