Description:

ARCHIVE OF 115TH INFANTRY WORLD WAR II SOLDIER
A group of material related to Louis B. Wagner, Sgt. with Co. F, 115th Infantry 29th Division Air Force. Wagner was a construction worker before the war and served from 1943-1946 in both the European and African theaters, winning a Bronze Star. The group contains a total of 18 documents, which include citations, a soldier's qualification card, service record, clearance record, and so forth. WITH: two photographs of presumably Wagner's division standing in front of construction machinery, and over 125 candid photographs from Wagner's service, many of which bear dates and places. These include: Omaha Beach, the carrier ‘Midway', Normandy and other parts of France (including crowds in Paris on V-E Day), Belgium, Great Britain, and Germany. One notable image is identified on verso: ‘Taken on the ‘Rhine' near ‘Mainz'. The boat going up the river was ‘Hitler's' private boat. Now it's used by ‘Red Cross' for sight seeing tours'. The group also includes two maps showing the ‘Road to France' and France itself. The 115th Regiment left New York on October 5,1942, arriving in England on October 11, 1942. It was then attached to the 1st Division Infantry in preparation for the D-Day invasion. The regiment's participation in Normandy Campaign continued until July 1944, at which point it moved on to participate in the Northern France Campaign until September 1944. During this period the 115th Infantry Regiment was engaged in the Battle for Brest, fought during Operation Cobra as part of the Battle of Normandy. It then participated in the Rhineland Campaign and thereafter moved to the Central European Campaign until the end of the war. Condition varies but overall good to very good. Should be viewed.
