Description:

ARCHITECTURAL GOLD NSDAP EAGLE
A most unusual relic, a gold painted eagle made of cast plaster reinforced with hemp fiber, with a large screw fixed to the base so it may be used for installation indoors. This ornament measures 16.5 in. wide and 9 in. tall, excluding the 2.25 in. lag screw type hardware cast into the piece at bottom. There are some scattered chips to the paint, and very minor chips to the plaster itself, otherwise in very good condition. Of course, this piece was intended only for indoor use, and the gauge of the screw at bottom indicates it was not used on any trophy or similar presentation, but was almost certainly used as a piece of decor, certainly in an official, administrative building or Wehrmacht facility. This eagle is very reminiscent of the eagle which once hung above Hitler's bedroom in the 'Old Chancellery', sold by us in 2022 for $200,000: the eagle's chest and wing feathering is nearly the same, the talons are very similar, and the great thickness of the wreath about the swastika at bottom is also very similar. Maker marked at bottom: 'M3/172'. This is one of only four such examples known to exist.
