Description:

Good lot of six German-produced propaganda leaflets in English, all with grotesque anti-Semitic content. Includes:double-sided propaganda leaflet, 5 3/4" x 8", depicting two wealthy men with stereotypically Jewish features enjoying a lavish meal in the company of two beautiful women, as the specter of a dying British soldier hovers over the table. The title "The fight for freedom!" appears at bottom, and the verso bears the repeating slogans: "Freedom for exploitation, Freedom for deception, Freedom for profiteering, Freedom for Jewish policy", a clear parody of Norman Rockwell's "Four Freedoms" series of propaganda images. Shows some chips to the edges with resulting paper loss at the bottom left corner, and with slight soiling, else very good. WITH: double-sided propaganda leaflet, 5 3/4" x 8", entitled "Benjamin Franklin's Prophecy" and reprinting an anti-Semitic screed falsely attributed to the Founding Father. The images of four Jewish-American governmental figures appears below, and the verso reproduces a 1944 Saturday Evening Post cover featuring an image of a bust of Franklin with another (authentic) quote. Shows uneven toning to the edges, else very good. WITH: double-side propaganda leaflet distributed to British soldiers, 4" x 6", entitled "Why Die For The Jews?", and presenting the usual hysterical anti-Semitic conspiracy theories: "The Jew wishes the Englishman to fight but does not care to fight himself... The Jews avoid all military service and all essential war work by all the means and tricks in their power... The Jews are at the back of the Black Market and PROFIT by the war...", etc. Shows a horizontal fold, with small tears to the edges and a small triangular puncture just off-center, else very good. WITH: double-sided propaganda leaflet, 4" x 5 3/4", reprinting a divisive and anti-Semitic poem, in small part: "...You dumb Gentiles kill each other, We smart pepples stick to cover... German Christians killing Yanks, Whiskered rabbis giving thanks... Christian sea fleets in full sail, Yiddish bankers making kale...", etc. The leaflet is illustrated with image lifted from "New Yorker" magazine. Shows slight folds and foxing, else very good. WITH: double-sided propaganda leaflet, 4" x 5 3/4", depicting a perky-looking woman reaching for the telephone, with the caption "What about calling up Sam Levy?" It continues on the verso: "At first she hesitated a bit about calling up Sam, the war profiteer. But then she said to herself, "There's no point in waiting any longer for Joe to come back, the war seems endless, and the best years of my life are passing by...", beneath the title: "You have a date with death. Your girl has a date with Sam Levy" The recto is stamped "To the poor Devils of the 29th [Infantry Division]". Shows toning overall ragged at the edges, else very good. WITH: rather bizarre double-sided propaganda leaflet, 7 1/4" x 5", entitled "Who Murdered Vice President Wallace?" likely an arch commentary on the dismissal of Henry A. Wallace as vice president Harry S. Truman during the 1944 presidential election. It goes on to blame this dismissal on (presumably Jewish) war profiteers. The verso bears a much-used "Sagacity Sam" poem, containing the line: You can be certain that after this war, More Jews will have millions than ever before..." Shows a 1" tear to the top edge and some very small chips, else very good. Six pieces.
