Description:

ANTI-SEMITIC GERMAN PROPAGANDA POSTER
Very large German pre-World War II propaganda poster, 33" x 48". The poster reprints a satirical passage by "Ignaz Wrobel" (a pseudonym used by journalist and writer Kurt Tucholsky), criticizing the apathy in German society that enabled the Nazi takeover, in part: "... I wish to the women of the church council and the chief editor and the mother of the sculptor and the sister of the banker that you can find a bitter and agonizing death, all together. Because they so wish, without meaning to. Because they are lazy. Because they do not hear or see or feel..." Stripping this passage of its satirical context, the Nazis respond: "... These monstrosities weren't written by an insane person, but by the Jew Ignaz Wrobel...in a Jewish publication...did a German national of Jewish faith stand up against it? No! Did any democrat in the name of humanity stand up against it? No! Did the Christian bishops demonstrate for the German people, those who today demonstrate for the Jews? No! No commentary needed!" Includes a paper label on verso, giving a date of Jan. 12, 1939, and the title: "Die Parole der Woche" ("Slogan of the Week"), issue 2. Folds, minor splitting along the folds, else very good.
