Description:

ANTI-AIRCRAFT GUNNER''S PHOTO ALBUM AND RELICS FROM JAPANESE ATTACK ON ALEUTIANS
Great grouping of material from an unidentified American army anti-aircraft gunner stationed on Adak and likely elsewhere in the Aleutians during the abortive Japanese attack on those islands in 1943. Included is the soldier''s photograph album, 11" x 7 1/4", containing 300+ original photographs. Topics include two manned anti-aircraft sites, quonset huts, construction of barracks, road construction, fishing, etc. Following the Japanese attack, the soldier added photos of a downed American B-26, and destroyed Japanese bombers as well. The album closes with images of dead Japanese soldiers (reprints) following their suicide, and a buxom USO performer brave enough to travel to the Aleutians. Also present are various relics possibly scavenged by the soldier, including Japanese navy uniform buttons, insignia, two medals and a small metal dial with a red cross. Finally, the soldier''s own insignia and belongings are present, including two photos, "AA" and private''s stripes, ribbon bars, infantry school pin, Aleutians souvenir pillow case, and more. Very good. Material of any sort from the Aleutians campaign is rare!
