Description:

ANJETTE LYLES
(1925 - 1977) American serial killer. The attractive Georgian poisoned her two husbands and her mother-in-law with arsenic in order to obtain their estates. She also murdered her daughter using the same poison. A search of her home turned up the poison in pesticides, and also revealed voodoo paraphernalia. She was convicted and became the first white woman sentenced to death in Georgia. That being the case, Gov. Ernest Vandiver chose to appoint a commission to further examine Lyles and it was determined she was insane. She died in state care. Rare fine content A.L.S. "Anjette" with transmittal envelope also bearing her full signature, 3pp. 4to., Macon, Jan. 17, 1959 sent by her while in jail to attorney W. O. Cooper in Macon. While an appeal of her conviction was being sought, Lyles writes Cooper, whom she hoped would join her defense team. In part: "…I have not killed anyone - I know you can help me... I have told the truth about not killing anyone - I have asked the lawyers for a Lie Detector test… please come to see me and come by yourself… I know you could save me from the Chair... I have another little girl who needs her mother and I have not killed anyone… If I had killed someone I would have cracked up while I was in that little cell - It was terrible!!!...". Fine.
