Description:

Andrew Porter 1820-1872 Union brigadier general who led a brigade at Bull Run and served as provost marshal in the Wilderness campaign. War date A.L.S. 3pp. 8vo., Philadelphia, Mar. 27, 1864 to Rep. William Miller. Fine content in which Porter complains that Stanton had declared him not on duty ,. he writes: ...[I commanded] rendezvous of drafted men in Harrisburg in the fall, winter and spring of 1862 until relieved by Genl Hatch... I want at least fair play in the recording of my military history... I will take such proper states as may be necessary. Fine.
