(1767-1845) Seventh President of the United States, "Old Hickory" became a national hero in his defense of New Orleans and as president encouraged Western expansion and paid off the national debt. Unusual partly-printed D.S. "Andrew Jackson" as President, 1p. oblong 4to. on vellum, Washington, May 12, 1836 a Naval appointment issued to Charles E. Fleming as a midshipman. Countersigned by MAHLON DICKINSON as Secretary of the Navy. An unusual example of a naval appointment in a small format. A few pin holes and related wear at margins, some folds, else fine condition.
