Scarce A.L.S. by ANDREW JACKSON, JR. also bearing a docket in the hand of his father, president ANDREW JACKSON. ANDREW JACKSON, JR. (1808-1865) was the nephew of the president. In 1808, Rachel and Andrew took in an infant, one of a set of twins of Rachel's brother Severn Donelson and his wife Elizabeth and raised him as their own. They named him Andrew Jackson Junior. We offer a rare A.LS. A. Jackson junr", 2pp. 4to., "Valley Forge S[team] Boat", Mar. 13, 1842 to the retired president, then at the Hermitage. In part: "...when getting to N Orleans I found a terrible state of affairs there - all the Banks broken except one or two and very little of agricultural money to be had...Mr. T. Y. Kitty Smith...had the amount...I wanted...gave him a draft upon you payable in Tennessee funds at 30 days...12 1/2 to 15 prct discount between Tennessee and Northern funds...I have a good deal to say to you when I get home...I feel very anxious to get back to you & my dear wife...". On the edge of the address panel, President Jackson lightly dockets the letter in pencil: "Agricultural funds to pay Given &c ----- Natchez New Orleans &c.". Folds, seal tears in blank areas, else very good.
